What's on this week on the Sunshine Coast

Floating Land! And that's where you'll find me for the next 10 days. Capturing all the action, art and events at the different venues. 

It all kicked off today (Fri 27 May 2011)

Various artists were installing their pieces today at the Coolum Boardwalk with more to come in the next few days. The official opening will be on Tuesday 4pm @ Pt Perry.

And still to come at Coolum is Jan Dunlop and Corrie Wright, both of whom will be installing over the next few days.

And at Boreen Point and Lake Cootharaba, there's a non-stop week of workshops, exhibitions, displays and performances happening. Here's Lyndon Davies with Gubbi Gubbi Dance performing at the official launch of Floating Land 2011.

Last Days!

Rush on down to the Caloundra Art Gallery this weekend to see my fabulous exhibition before it closes! (open 10 - 4 Sat & Sun) It all gets pulled down and packed away on Monday so don't miss out.

You can see I had a splendid time at the opening.
Twirling with relief, adrenalin, excitement, gratitude, love from family and friends and maybe a little bit of red wine.

In the meantime, I've been busy photographing weddings and lots of babies and generally trying to catch up on things. I've had to defer Uni studies as life just got a tad too busy there for a while.

My (19-year-old) baby girl has now moved to Melbourne and my Mum has also had a life change and moved house so its all been happening. I have full intentions of resuming regular blogging from now on, and also weaning myself off facebook! Sounds a bit like a late new years resolution so we'll see how well I stick to it!

I'm still alive and kicking but things have been just a little bit chaotic since Christmas time. One of the reasons is below. I've photographed the goings on at the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery since it opened 10 years ago. So the whole gallery will be full of my photos next week for about 5 weeks, as part of the 10 year celebrations. So if you're in town, call in and have a look. You might be surprised at what goes on in and around an art gallery.

Once the official opening is over and life gets back to normal (whatever normal is!) I'll be doing my darndest to get back to regular blogging.

Re Coil - Art Exhibition

You have until Sunday August 16 to pop into the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery to see the fascinating and diverse Re Coil exhibition from the Northern Territory. If you get the chance, it's worth the look.

One of the many things I love about my job is the variety of opportunities to experience something completely different. Like recently documenting the The NoWhere Art Group's - Viewfinder exhibition in and around Caloundra.

Caloundra Art Gallery - Exhibition Opening

Here's a quick run down of what goes on at an opening at the art gallery. (Photographed last Friday night)

Well, you check out the art. Duh. In this case the snazzy pieces by Beau Deeley in the exhibition titled 'divine moments of truth'. You listen to a couple of speeches and the official opening.


You get to meet the artists and special guests.


Have a bite to eat, a glass of wine and listen to the entertainment.


And be a part of 'The Cubic Structural Evolution Project'


Not a bad evening's entertainment. The exhibition is showing until the end of May so get on down and check it out. And have a play with the Lego!

Caloundra Regional Art Gallery

You only have a few days left to catch the urban scrawl and ConVerge exhibitions at the Art Gallery. It's an interesting blend of two diverse art forms - ceramics and street art - which mingle in a surprisingly complimentary manner. Worth a look if you're at a loose end this weekend. The echidna is my favourite, I would have liked to take him home with me!

So much has been happening in the last few weeks it's hard to keep track of everything. These photos are from the latest exhibition at the Art Gallery. It's showing until 8 July so if you get a chance, pop in and see it. It's something out of the ordinary and I had a lot of fun photographing it.
